LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A 21-year-old man faces a battery charge after Little Rock police say a 1-year-girl was admitted to Arkansas Children’s Hospital with facial fractures, cuts and bite marks on her body.

Little Rock police arrested Brown after launching an investigation.

The child’s caretaker originally told hospital staff that the 1-year-old girl was injured after being pulled down the stairs by a toddler, but a doctor told investigators the injuries were far too severe to be the result of falling down a flight of stairs.

According to a police report, the entire left side of the victim’s face was swollen. Detectives noted that the child’s face was also covered in cuts, and her lip was covered in dried blood. The child also had multiple bite marks on her leg and buttocks, according to the police report. The doctor said the bite marks were too large to be caused by a toddler.

Little Rock police spoke with the child’s mother who said she was at work and left the 1 year old in the care of the child’s sister. The mother said the 1 year old did not have any facial injuries when the mother left for work.

Brown was developed as a suspect and brought in for questioning. Detectives say several of Brown’s statements were proven false, including information about his whereabouts, according to a police report.

Brown was booked into the Pulaski county jail.

His bond has been set at $75,000.
