MICHIGAN HOUSE ENVY

Posh $2.5M Birmingham town house has a level for everything

This sophisticated town house, walkably close to downtown Birmingham, is four stories tall and has an in-house elevator to all four floors.

For the current owners, it was their pied-a-terre — “foot on the ground” — their apartment in a city away from their main home.

It is lightly used and ready for a new owner to step in — a turnkey house tastefully decorated and furnished. Everything you see is included. The price is $2,499,900.

This is an end unit in a row of luxury town houses, which means it has windows around three of its sides, not a town house’s usual two.

Inside, the town house is neutral and posh. Crown molding and other trim are ample. Floors are dark wood; chandeliers are crystal. Colors lean to white and light gray.

The kitchen is lavish, including its  trophy range, a six-burner Wolf.

There are four spaces for living or lounging, depending on how you set it up. Among the four floors there are five gas fireplaces. They’re in the living room, family room, den, owners’ suite and guest suite.

Here’s how the town house’s 3,500 square feet stack up over four floors:

Level 1, entertaining

Arched half-windows that look out at street level, a den-like room with a fireplace, a full bath, a wet bar with a wine fridge, a wine rack and ice maker.

Level 2, the kitchen

Formal living room, formal dining room, powder room, long galley kitchen with casual eating and a walk-out balcony, a family room next to the kitchen.

Level 3, the bedroom level

Owner’s suite with walk-in closet and lavish bath, guest suite including bath, large laundry room.

Level 4, a big suite

One big suite that can be different things. Currently a full bath, sitting room and TV area, bay area with windows and a built-in bed.

And just to repeat, the elevator opens on each floor.

High-end details

Although it’s part of a multiple structure, the town house includes high-end details you might see in a high-priced free-standing house.

The owners’ bedroom, for example, has a deep tray ceiling and a small wrought-iron Juliet balcony. Its black and marble bathroom is spectacular with its tall peaked ceiling and crystal chandelier.

The end unit’s extra gables and dormers make dynamic rooflines both inside and out.

The master bedroom is fully furnished.

Another example is the guest room where four tall, slanting walls come together in a very high peak. “It’s my favorite spot,” the owner said. “It’s like a starburst.”

The kitchen has an outdoor balcony where you can barbecue. The formal dining room has French doors to a small balcony under a pergola.

These owners are an Ohio couple with a large business that they sometimes need to run it from Michigan. So the technology is extensive.

It has the Savant Home Automation system that controls lighting, security, climate; ultra-fast Wi-fi, video conferencing and more, one of the owners said.

“When I’m talking with someone, I want to see their face.”
