Watch your speed on metro Detroit freeways on Wednesday.

Michigan State Police are cracking down on speeders along three local freeways: I-96 on the west side, I-75 north of Pontiac and the Lodge in Detroit on the city's west side.

The agency will be conducting extra enforcement on I-96 between Beck and Wixom Road and the Southfield Freeway as they strive to reduce crashes and lower speeds.

Police say, marked and unmarked units will be looking for violators and cracking down on distracted, aggressive and texting drivers on what they call Operation Slower to Lower.

The patrols will be out between 9 a.m. and the evening rush hours, according to police.

Units will also be active along I-75 between M-59 and Sashabaw Roads and the Lodge between Wyoming and Linwood.
