Police arrested a 26-year-old man, and are searching for another, hours after a barricaded gunman incident that involved four children on Detroit's west side Tuesday morning.

Cmdr. Darin Szilagy said a young girl called 911 sometime after 4 a.m. in the 17000 block of Heyden Street, saying that her mother was being attacked by her stepfather. Police believe that the man, who was wanted for domestic violence, left before police arrived.

His current whereabouts are unknown.

Police, who initially arrived on the scene, made contact with a 26-year-old man inside the house, who refused to allow law enforcement inside.

"His demeanor deteriorated, and eventually, he threatened to shoot our police officers," Szilagy said in a brief press conference via Facebook.

A woman and four children under 13 were rescued by police unharmed.

The 26-year-old man and another woman surrendered to authorities.

Szilagy said multiple officers, including the department's hostage negotiators and special response team, responded to the scene.

The house has been cleared; however, police are still investigating the scene.

No gun has yet been recovered.

Szilagy said police have previously been to the home before for other domestic violence and assault incidents

Szilagy commended the young girl for calling police.
