Michigan State football added a much-needed running back to its next recruiting class.

Jordon Simmons announced he would become a Spartan on his Twitter account on Monday night, becoming the 15th player to commit for 2020 and the third from Georgia in the class.

Simmons chose the Spartans over Georgia, LSU, Florida State, Oregon, Colorado, Louisville, West Virginia, Arkansas and Mississippi. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound product of McEachern High in Powder Springs, Ga., is rated the No. 39 running back nationally and the 586th-best player in 247Sports.com's composite rankings.

It is an important pickup for coach Mark Dantonio’s program, which lost two running backs – Connor Heyward, also from Georgia, and La’Darius Jefferson – to the NCAA transfer portal in the past month. The Spartans have redshirt freshman Elijah Collins and true freshmen Anthony Williams and Brandon Wright as their top three running backs remaining on the roster.

Simmons is the 14th 3-star recruit in MSU’s 2020 class. The lone 4-star is safety Darius Snow, whose father Eric (basketball) and uncle Percy (football) both played for the Spartans. Dantonio’s other pledges from Georgia are WR Rickey White (Marietta) and DE Simeon Barrow Jr. (Groveton).
