'He looks like a roommate you regret': Albin Grewe catches the eye of Red Wings fans

There’s something about Albin Grewe that makes an immediate impression.

In the week since the Detroit Red Wings chose him in the third round, 66th overall, in the 2019 NHL draft, Grewe has garnered attention among the Free Press’ Wings readership.

His style of play is exciting — his coach in Sweden calls him T-Rex in a nod to Grewe’s appetite for treating opponents as lower rungs on the food chain — and Grewe is a big fan of Boston winger Brad Marchand, a player beloved by Bruins fans and loathed elsewhere for his antics.

Grewe, as fellow Wings draft pick Gustav Berglund put it, “likes to get opponents angry and then score some goals.”

Why Joe Veleno sees a big opportunity with Wings

Here are some of the reactions from Wings fans:

“Albin Grewe says he likes to play like Brad Marchand. I beg him to play more like Kirk Maltby. Marchand is a dirty hockey player who doesn’t play all that well in his defensive zone. I hope Grewe can learn the difference.” — Andy F., via e-mail

“Ok, is it me or does this kid have a devilish look about him to match his ability to irritate?  I saw his pic in your article and thought about Dana Carvey's Church Lady...."is it Satan?" I hope I am right.” — Kevin L, via e-mail

Here's someone who remembers how Vladimir Konstantinov used to drive opponents nuts.
