BHOPAL: School and college bus operators have demanded reduction in taxes on buses registered in the name of society as they are not running commercially. The demand was made during a meeting with transport and revenue minister Govind Singh Rajput at Mantralaya on Monday.
Bus Operators association general secretary Sunil Dubey informed that government charges Re1 per seat tax on school-college buses but if buses are registered in the name of society, the government is taking Rs 480 as tax quarterly.
“So we have requested the minister that no school and college run without society so if buses are registered in the name of society, they are also for school purpose and not for commercial purpose. Taxes should be reasonably levied on such vehicles.”
Minister Govind Rajput said, “As matter is related to CAG, so no initiative can be taken at department level. If issue is raised by management, we will consider sympathetically.
Soon camps will be held for lease”. Transport commissioner Shailendra Shrivastava, PS Tranaport Malay Shrivastava and other senior officials were present at the meeting.
