Indore: Junior doctors of Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital, the biggest government run medical facility, struck work for two hours on Friday to protest against the attack on the doctors of NRC Medical College in West Bengal.

The doctors termed the strike a ‘symbolic’ to protest the violence against doctors and demanded implementation of Doctors’ Protection Act.

During the strike, junior doctors gathered at the main entrance of MY Hospital and staged demonstration with placards and shouted slogans demanding strict action against the accused.

Secretary of Junior Doctors’ Association Dr Abhishek Singh told media that it was a ‘symbolic strike’ and emergency services and surgeries functioned as normnal.

“Cases of violence against doctors are on the rise across the country. We put in all efforts to save patient’s life as no doctor want patient to be in a critical condition. People have to respect doctors and so the government. The government should take immediate action to protect doctors,” Singh added.

Office-bearers of Junior Doctors Association said that they will continue to protest by tying black ribbons until an action was taken by the government to ensure doctors’ safety.

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad too staged a protest against West Bengal’s incident at Shivaji Vatika Square.
