SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – Jordan’s Furniture is planning to open its first store here in Maine next week. It will be the company’s seventh store in New England.

The new location is slated to open on Friday, July 17, at noon in the Maine Mall, according to Mainebiz, which provides business news, information and analysis for business owners in Maine. The building is a former Filene’s/Bon-Ton’s store.

The 120,000-square-foot, two-floor branch will include an 8,000-square-foot outlet center. Typical of other Jordan’s Furniture locations, the store will also include an indoor adventure ropes course with zip lines for kids and adults, videos shown on an LED-lighted indoor ceiling and a food stand that offers hot dogs, candy, ice cream and popcorn.

Jordan’s representatives said the store will follow local government safety practices, including requirements that employees and visitors wear protective face masks, temperature checks for workers, social distancing and thorough cleaning and sanitizing. Although the new store was supposed to launch in the spring, the grand opening was delayed because of the pandemic.

Jordan’s agreed in May 2019 to take the space, which had been vacant since Bon-Ton closed its only Maine location in April 2017.

Jordan’s Furniture has three stores, a clearance center and a 750,000-square-foot warehouse and office complex in Massachusetts, as well as stores in Connecticut, New Hampshire and Rhode Island.
