Limousins average £5,182 at Stirling

In the Limousin sale, 51 bulls were sold at a clearance rate of 84% with the top price of 11,000gns paid for two junior bulls.

With 10 more sold than last year, the sales tallied up to £260,820, averaging £5,182, up £119 on the year.

Trade toppers at 11,000gns

The first bull knocked down for 11,000gns was Knock Nicol from Mr A Howie, Stuartfield, Petersfield who had been awarded overall champion in the pre-sale show.

The May 2017 born bull by Goldies Goldfinger and out of Knock Hopscotch was knocked down to Terry Coghill, Birsay, Orkney.

Commenting on Nicol, the show judge Michael Robertson of Fodderletter Farms, Ballindalloch, Banffshire, said: “My choice of champion is a big powerful, correct bull for his age who carried plenty of style. He had a great top, a nice head, and very good locomotion.  I feel this bull would be suited to both pedigree and commercial herds.”

Purchased at the same money was the June 2017-born Burnbank Northernlad from Messrs D and L Graham, Blairdrummond, Stirling.

Sired by Glenrock Ventura and out of Burnbank Evita, his purchase was shared by the Newhouse pedigree herd of Messrs Robert M Adam and Son, Newhouse Of Glamis, Forfar, and the Westhall herd of M Fotheringham & H McNee, Over Finlarg Farm, Tealing, Dundee.

Next best selling at 10,000gns was the May 2017 born Homebyres Nistleroy from Messrs J Logan, Humebyres, Kelso.  The AI son of Fairywater Haig is out of Homebyres Floricity.

The show judge Michael Robertson took Nistleroy home to Fodderletter Farms.

It was a good day for the Graham family who, as well as receiving joint top price, sold Burnbank Millennium for 8,500gns.

Purchased by D S Stark and Sons, South Ballo, Inchture, Perthshire, the November 2016 born bull is by the popular AI sire Ampertaine Gigolo and is out of Burnbank Gypsy.

The senior champion, Strawfrank Nevada, from Allan Campbell, Strawfrank Farm, Carstairs Junction, Lanark, was knocked down for 8,200gns.

Nevada, born in February 2017, is by the AI sire Ballinloan Jaegerbomb and out of Strawfrank Grace. He was was knocked down to Chas McMillan, Ardbeg Farm, Isle of Islay.
