Sardis advances to face Gadsden City

Gaston grabbed the lead early in the fourth quarter, but Sardis ended up with a 53-38 win in the Gadsden Area Christmas Classic play-in game Wednesday.

The Lions move on to play Gadsden City at 8:30 p.m. in the first round.

Nick Lewis hit a 3-pointer with five minutes left to play then came right back with a layup to put the Bulldogs up 38-37. The Lions (4-7) then went on a 16-0 run to end the game and earn the victory.

Sardis led majority of the way, but Gaston kept it close. The Lions were up 17-10 after one quarter, 28-21 at the half and 35-28 through three quarters.

Chase Williams and Jacob Hopper each had 14 points to pace Sardis.

Lewis had 10 points for Gaston.

The Bulldogs will play the loser of Westbrook Christian and Glencoe at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the loser’s bracket.
