Sardis High receives threatening email

Late Friday afternoon the principal of Sardis High School received an anonymous email containing a threat to Sardis High School.

The email was shared with the school resource officer and the Etowah County Sheriff's Department. The faculty was also briefed, according to a statement from Etowah County Sheriff Jonathan Horton.

The threat is under investigation by the sheriff's department as well as the Sardis City police.

"The safety of Sardis High School students, faculty, and staff are the top priority at this time. Please be assured that safety policies and procedures are in place, and The Etowah County Sheriff's office will be providing extra security as needed at Sardis High School," Etowah County Schools Superintendent Alan Cosby said in a statement released to the media.
