Community Action to accept gardening applications
Community Action of Etowah County on Monday will begin accepting applications from low-income families to participate in the annual Home Gardening Program.
Applications will be accepted at the Community Action office, 624 Broad St. Client interviews will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and April 8-12 and 15-19.
The objective of this progrm is to help low-income families move towards self-sufficiency through planting home gardens to supplement their dietary needs.
These verifications are needed:
• Social Security cards of all household members;
• Photo ID of head of household;
• Household total gross income (SSI, SS, VA, check stubs, child-support, etc.) of month to application, and food stamps allotment letter.
Qualified applicants will receive a $20 voucher which may be used to purchase gardening seeds, vegetable plants and/or fertilizer from participating vendors. This year’s vendors are 411 Feed and Seed and Farmtown in Sardis City.
Monthy income eligibility requirements are one person, $1,264; two people, $1,714; three people, $2,164; four people, $2,614; five people, $3,064; six people, $3,514; seven people, $3,967; add $450 for each additional family member.
