Where to see fireworks

With Independence Day just around the corner, a number of cities and organizations are planning fireworks shows, live music and other events to celebrate the holiday.

Here’s a list of free events in our area:

JUNE 28

Cedar Bluff - Liberty Day will be held 4-10 p.m. at Cedar Bluff Town Park. Vendors and food will be available as well as antique cars, tractors and live music. Fireworks will begin at 9 p.m. over the lake near the park. 

Sardis City - The Summer Celebration will be held at its new location, Sardis City Park, 448 Parkway Drive. Event will begin at 6 p.m. and features music by Bloodline, Erica Green and Colby Greer. Kids activities will include bounce houses, wet and dry slides and a circus train. Adults and supervised kids can participate in cornhole competitions. There will also be a car and motorcycle show with door prizes and a homemade ice cream competition. Fireworks begin at 9 p.m.

JUNE 29

Piedmont - Parents of the Boy Scouts will host Boomageddon 4 at the Piedmont Sports Complex. Fireworks will begin at dark.

JUNE 30

Locust Fork - Locust Fork Baptist Church will sponsor the annual fireworks show at Locust Fork Park. Following a bike parade at 5 p.m., activities including inflatables, games and prizes, face painting and free bottled water, popcorn and cotton candy will begin at 6. Admission is free, but hot dogs and barbecue can be purchased. Fireworks will begin between 8:30 and 9 p.m.

JULY 1

Attalla - Big Wills Campground on Hwy 77 will host its annual fireworks show beginning at 9 p.m. Music begins at 8 p.m. Bring a blanket or lawn chair.

JULY 3

Blountsville - Spring Valley Beach Water Park will host its annual fireworks show at 9 p.m. The show is free and can be viewed from the parking lot.

Jacksonville - Jax Fest will kick off at 6 p.m. at the Jacksonville High School Football Stadium with music by Caldonia followed by Soul Survivor at 7 p.m. Fireworks begin at 9. Vendors, kids activities and giveaways will be available. Gates open at 5 p.m. Bring a chair.

Whorton Bend - Blast in the Bend will be held at Whorton Bend Baptist Church beginning at 6:30 p.m. Hot dogs, ice cream and music will be available before fireworks kick off at dark. Bring a chair.

JULY 4

Gadsden - The Gadsden-Etowah Patriots Association is hosting the annual fireworks show over the Coosa River in downtown Gadsden beginning at 9 p.m. Prime viewing locations are Convention Hall, the Mort Glosser Amphitheater and Coosa Landing parking lots.

Gadsden - The Gadsden Mall is hosting an event with entertainment, rides and a view of the Patriots Association fireworks beginning at 5 p.m. Rides include a mechanical bull, race cars, and a meltdown ride. Frios Gourmet Pops will be available and 102.9 morning host Shane Wilson will be on site with chances to win prizes. At 7 p.m., New Delusions will perform before fireworks kick off at 9 p.m.

Guntersville - Fireworks over Lake Guntersville will begin at 9 p.m. Best viewing areas are at Civitan Park and along Lurleen B. Wallace Drive. A free concert featuring Soul Survivor sponsored by Mountain Valley Arts Council will be held at Civitan Park beginning at 6 p.m.
