Jacket boys, Lion girls move on in Etowah County tourney

SARDIS CITY — Ten Glencoe players scored at least one basket in the Yellow Jackets' 63-43 victory over West End on Tuesday night in the first round of the Etowah County Tournament at Sardis High School.

Glencoe jumped out to a 20-8 lead in the opening period and never looked back.

While the scoring was spread among the Yellow Jackets, three players did post double figures.

Cade McCarver and Ethan Wells finished with 11 points, while Braden Lamb chipped in 10.

"This was a good team win for us tonight by getting to play a lot of players and work to polish a few things," Wells said of Glencoe's win.

The Yellow Jackets (7-14) move on to play Southside in the semifinal round of the tournament at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

"That will be a great game for us because we've already played them, and this game will get us ready to get back into area play," Wells added.

After taking a 12-point into the second period, Glencoe went on a 7-2 run to build a 17-point lead.

West End (5-16) could not any closer than 14 points through the remainder of the game.

Jeremiah Roberson led the Patriots with a game-high 13 points followed by Eli Pearce with 10.

GIRLS

Sardis 57, West End 12

Sardis held West End to just four points in the second half to cruise to the semifinal round of the Etowah County Tournament.

The Lions (10-4) scored the first nine points before the Patriots scratched the scoreboard and eventually took a 17-2 lead into the second period.

Nine Sardis players scored at least a basket in the win. Kaitlyn Morris scored a game-high 11 points for the Lions.

Emily-Kate Jones and Molly Morris each chipped in eight points for Sardis.

Kayley Dobbins led West End with five points.

The semifinal round of the tournament begins Wednesday when top seed Southside faces Hokes Bluff at 6:15 p.m. in girls action. The first boys semifinal will follow around 7:30 p.m. when top-seeded Hokes Bluff faces Sardis.
