Sardis wins JV county softball tourney

SARDIS CITY — Sardis won the Etowah County junior varsity softball tournament Friday.

The title is the third straight for the Lions, who beat Southside 5-3 in the semis and Glencoe 13-12 in the title game.

Kytha Edwards got the win in the semis in circle for Sardis, allowing six hits while fanning five. Lanese Edmondson collected two hits, including a double, and one RBI. Jade Knight had two hits, including a double. Jaylyn Hannah drove a double and plated one run. Valerie Owens, Madison Chapman and Linzey Hostutler each amassed one hit and one RBI. Edwards and Jayda Lacks chipped in one hit each.

In the finals, Hannah’s RBI triple in the fifth ended up being the game-winner. Edwards was the winning pitcher.

Edmondson and Edwards each had two hits, including a double. Chapman hit a triple and plated two runs. Lacks finished with a double and three RBI. Makynzee Chapman stole three bases. Knight walked once and scored two runs. Ava Wiggs scored two runs. Keely Walker walked and scored one run.

Hokes Bluff 15, Pleasant Valley 3

JACKSONVILLE — Class 4A, No. 1 Hokes Bluff eased past Pleasant Valley 15-3 in six innings in high school baseball Saturday.

Drake Rainey paced the Eagles with two hits, including a double, and one RBI. Caleb McGinnis had two hits, including a double. Hunter Burke drove a pair of hits. Carson Eubanks and Dylan Teague each pounded a double and plated two runs. Houston Edwards tallied one hit and two RBI. David Vest contributed one hit. Ashton Gulledge drove in one run.

Teague started and pitched one inning, allowing one earned run with two strikeouts. McGinnis went three innings in relief, giving up no runs or hits while fanning two. Rainey pitched the final two frames, yielding no earned runs and two hits with two strikeouts.

Westbrook 7-1, Piedmont 5-11

RAINBOW CITY — In a battle of high school baseball powers, Class 2A, No. 10 Westbrook Christian scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to rally past 3A, No. 5 Piedmont 7-5 Saturday before falling in the nightcap 11-1.

All three runs came on a walk-off home run by the Warriors’ Andrew Dutton, whose blast also plated Joseph Gilchrist and Samuel Dutton.

Andrew Dutton also was the winning pitcher, going all seven innings while allowing four earned runs, five hits and no walks while striking out seven. He also reached base four times — three on hits and once on a walk.

Samuel Dutton finished with two hits. Greysen Robinson and John Ross Morgan each helped out with one hit and one RBI. Fisher Glasgow and Andrew Lockridge chipped in one hit apiece.

In the second game, Robinson had one hit and Westbrook's lone RBI. Gilchrist and Andrew Dutton each garnered one hit. For the Bulldogs, Brant Deerman had four hits, including a home run, and four RBI.

Westbrook (12-11) welcomes Area 10 rival Ohatchee at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
