All-Etowah County Football Team
Coosa Christian WR Evan Delp named Times Player of Year
It wasn’t a season to remember for Coosa Christian record-wise, but wide receiver Evan Delp made it a must-watch.
The 6-foot-2, 173-pound junior looked as if he was going to break a state record for the 1-9 Conquerors.
Delp ended up falling short, but still finished with 1,489 yards on 45 receptions with 21 touchdowns. He is unofficially seventh in Alabama High School Athletic Association’s history for receiving yards in a single season. He averaged 33.1 yards per catch for Coosa.
For his efforts, Delp was named the 2019 Gadsden Times All-Etowah County Player of the Year.
The junior added 164 rushing yards with one touchdown and 145 kick-return yards with another score. On defense, he totaled four interceptions.
Westbrook Christian coach Drew Noles was named The Times’ Coach of the Year. Noles was at Etowah the past six seasons before heading over to the Rainbow City school.
The Warriors finished the year 8-4 with a run to the second round of the Class 2A playoffs — the deepest playoff run in the county with Hokes Bluff, Etowah and Sardis each falling in the first round. Westbrook won its first playoff game since 2010 with its 25-22 road win versus No. 10 Aliceville in the first round.
