Etowah County basketball tournament begins Monday at Southside

The Etowah County girls and boys basketball tournaments begin Monday and run through Friday at Southside High School’s competition gym.

Varsity girls and varsity boys will play one game each day with the girls beginning at 6 p.m. and the boys following at 7:30 p.m.

Glencoe is the top seed on the girls side followed by Southside, Hokes Bluff, Sardis, West End and Gaston. The Yellow Jackets defeated Southside 42-39 in the girls title game last year for their first county championship since 2011.

Southside is the No. 1 seed for the boys followed by Sardis, Hokes Bluff, Glencoe, West End and Gaston. Hokes Bluff defeated Southside 72-49 last season and has won the last two county tournaments.

Tuesday

No. 3 Hokes Bluff vs. No. 6 Gaston, 6 p.m. — 1st round

Wednesday

Sardis/West End winner vs. No. 1 Glencoe — semifinals

Thursday

Hokes Bluff/Gaston winner vs. No. 2 Southside — semifinals

Friday

Championship game, 6 p.m.
