SARDIS CITY — Dylan Metcalf, Temon Wilson and Michael Turner will all be playing college football in the fall.

The three Sardis seniors signed letters of intent Wednesday morning on National Signing Day.

The trio will head out of state to play at the next level. Metcalf’s trip will not be long, though, as he’ll head to Shorter University in Rome, Georgia.

Wilson and Turner will be nearly 1,000 miles away from Sardis City. Both chose to play at Rochester Community and Technical College in Minnesota.

Metcalf landed on The Gadsden Times 2019 All-Etowah County first team. The 6-foot-1, 320-pound center was a three-year starter for the Lions. He totaled 27 pancake blocks and graded 95 percent or higher each game in 2019.

Wilson did a little bit of it all for Sardis his senior season. He played defensive back and started playing receiver in week four. The 6-1, 175-pounder also carried the ball some and returned kickoffs. He was an honorable mention on The Times’ all-county team.

Defensively, Wilson totaled 40 tackles, 10 assists and two tackles for a loss. On offense, Wilson had 18 receptions for 326 yards (18.1 yards per catch) and five touchdowns. He carried the ball 39 times for 178 yards with one touchdown. Wilson returned 12 kickoffs for 269 yards and one touchdown for an average of 22.4 yards per return.

Turner was a standout on defense, recording 84 solo tackles, 37 assisted tackles, and 12 tackles for loss along with three fumble recoveries and three forced fumbles.

The 6-1, 210-pound middle linebacker was also a first-team selection on The Times‘ all-county team.

All three were key in Sardis making it back to the postseason after missing the playoffs in 2018. The Lions fell to the two-time defending Class 5A state champions Clay Central in the first round.
