Trenton shuts out Lafayette to stay unbeaten

Staff reports

MAYO — Darian Ingram didn’t know she would pitch Tuesday night, but when her number was called, the sophomore came in and dominated, helping Trenton softball remain perfect this season with an 11-0 win over Lafayette High.

Ingram entered the game to start the second inning, then threw four frames, striking out nine Hornets batters, allowing just two hits and no walks.

“We just came back from spring break and she hadn’t thrown in 12 days,” said Trenton head coach Todd Bryant. “She had plenty of rest and finished it off in just 54 pitches.”

Sophomore Keeli Zingaro opened the game in the circle and got plenty of run support in a hurry. The Tigers pasted 10 runs on the board in the first. Senior Taniah Bowers finished 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored, and Adrian Ingram was 2 for 4 with a pair of RBIs and a run. Freshman Florida commit Jenny Lyn Johnson went 2 for 4 with a run scored. Trenton climbs to 12-0.

“We’re getting back on track,” Bryant added. “We’re treating post-spring break like it’s a second season, so we’re putting the first season behind us and looking to the next one.”

Williston 20, Hawthorne 5: At Hawthorne, eighth-grader Karley Jerrels gave up just two hits and struck out nine in a five-inning, complete game win.
