Ingram powers Trenton softball past Chiefland

TRENTON — Sophomore Darian Ingram powered undefeated Trenton past all Chiefland batters, hurling a complete game, posting a 9-0 shutout over the Indians in softball Friday night. Ingram tallied 13 strikeouts and surrendered just two hits in a dominating win.

Freshman Jenny Lyn Johnson was big at the plate, going 3-for-4, scoring three runs and stealing a pair of  bases. Sophomore Adrian Ingram went 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs, while sophomore Lillian Wilkerson was 1-for-3, scratching out a double that was good for two runs batted in. Trenton is 13-0, 7-0 in district competition.

Bell 12, Branford 1: At Bell, Jenna Holley was a perfect 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles — and drove in 4 Bulldog runners — to easily put the Buccaneers away in five innings. Freshman Jordan Douglas was 3-for-4 with one RBI, freshman Michelle Heilig went 2-for-3 and senior Kylee Barry was 2-for-4 with a double. Bell climbs to 11-2.

Keystone Heights 3, Clay 2: At Clay, freshman Madi Mitzel had the game-winning double and two RBIs to help the Indians steal a late win on the road. Senior Savannah Channel batted 2-for-3 with one RBI and Ashton Ludwig went 2-for-4. The victory moves Keystone’s record to 10-4.

BASEBALL

P.K. Yonge 5, Keystone Heights 1: At P.K. Yonge, the Blue Wave picked up the district win behind the pitching of junior Danny Dawson, who recorded nine strikeouts over six and one-third innings. Junior Kyle Chappell got the save. Offensively, sophomore Nate Nicholson and Dawson each had two hits. P.K. Yonge is now 4-7.

Gainesville 18, Middleburg 3: At Gainesville, senior Seth Cox went 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and three RBIs, plus scored three runs to pace the Hurricanes’ rout of the Broncos. Senior Zeb Marquis finished 2-for-3 with a triple, four RBIs and three runs, as well as a home run. Senior Luke Marquis hit 3-for-3, with two doubles, two runs and one RBI, while Marcos Aular blasted a three-run homer. Logan Carlisle, meanwhile, went 2-for-2, also going yard for the ‘Canes. GHS is 5-8, 3-1 in district.

Columbia 5, Vanguard 0: At Lake City, junior Mikah Gustavson went the distance for the Tigers, racking up nine strikeouts and allowing just two hits. Mason Gray, Dylan Blair and Lance Minson all drove in Columbia runs. The Tigers improve to 6-7, and 3-1 in district.

Fort White 1, Palatka 0: At Fort White, future Gator Tyler Shelnut got the win for the Indians, throwing the full seven innings on the hill and striking out a dozen Panthers while giving up just two hits and one walk. Shelnut also scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning on Wyatt McLaughlin two-out base hit.
