BELL — Tied 1-1 in the sixth inning, Trenton scored two runs in the bottom half of the frame, then plated three in the seventh to knock off county-rival Bell, 6-1 in softball Friday night.

The visiting Tigers came in ranked number one in the state in Class 1A softball. The host Bulldogs were ranked third, not that rankings do anything to raise the importance of this Gilchrist County showdown.

“It’s a big game. It’s a rival period,” Trenton coach Todd Bryant said. “It’s always important. There’s a lot of bragging rights at stake.”

Junior Hallie Bryant went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for Trenton, and sophomore Keeli Zingaro batted 2-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored to pace the Tigers’ attack. Sophomore Darian Ingram hurled a complete game. Ingram allowed an uncommonly high nine hits, but walked only one and struck out six.

“Bell had got good pitching,” Bryant added. “They made us work at the plate. We didn’t hit the ball very well tonight.”

Trenton pushed their unblemished mark to 14-0 overall and 8-0 in district and clinched the top seed for their upcoming district tournament.

Jenna Holley led The Bulldogs at the plate, going 2-for-4.

Gainesville 4, Lake Region 3: At Kissimmee, it took 10 innings before the Hurricanes and Thunder had a winner Friday afternoon at the Kissimmee Klassic, but Gainesville rode pitcher Alissa Humphrey’s arm to victory. Humphrey, a junior, worked overtime pitching all 10 innings, and Katherine Gray drove in two runs to help GHS even its record at the competitive Klassic. Parris Wiggs tallied a pair of hits with one RBI.

Pembroke Pines Charter 9, Gainesville 2: At Kissimmee, the Hurricanes scored twice in the fourth inning to draw to within a run at 3-2, but the Jaguars scored five more in the bottom of the frame to pull away. Keystone Heights 7, Frostproof 0: At Kissimmee, Daelynn Eatmon struck out 10 and gave up just a single hit shutting out the Bulldogs at the Kissimmee Klassic. Ashton Ludwig was 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI, while Asia Givens, Kendall Gagnon and Emma Rogel all had two hits.
