Prep roundup: Eagles soar past Aucilla Christian in North Florida Conference Tournament semifinals

The Oak Hall boys basketball team overcame a halftime deficit to outscore Aucilla Christian 39-18 in the second half en route to a 64-44 victory in the North Florida Conference Tournament semifinals on Friday night.

Eagles junior guard Andrew Pickens led all scorers with 17 points, which also tied his career-high output.

Oak Hall also got standout performances from junior guard Matthew McKinney (16 points) and sophomore forward Cole Gonzales (15 points, seven rebounds, seven assists).

The Eagles (11-3), winners of six straight, face Quincy Munroe Day at 12 p.m. Saturday for the tournament title. Munroe Day defeated St. John’s Country Day 64-39 in the other semifinal.

Trenton 89, Chiefland 77 (OT): At Trenton, Trent Becker’s 25 points and 12 rebounds helped lead the Tigers to a close victory.

Trenton also got 24 points, nine rebounds and seven steals from Wyatt Duthu while Tyrese Jackson had 14 points and four assists.

The Tigers (15-5) play Tuesday at home against Branford.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Trenton 64, Chiefland 17: At Trenton, Kinsey Akins put up 15 points, eight rebounds and five steals to pace the Tigers.

Also factoring in for Trenton was Ta’Tyiana Jackson with 12 points on four 3-pointers, Janiyah King with 11 points and six rebounds and Jordan Douglas put up nine points, four assists and four steals.

Trenton (16-3) plays Tuesday at home vs. Branford.

Oak Hall 42, Aucilla Christian 29: At Saint Francis, the Eagles overcame a tepid effort to take a North Florida Conference Tournament semifinal contest and advance to the final.

Oak Hall sophomore guard Tyla Young had 15 points — also going 8 of 10 from the free-throw line — and added seven steals and three assists.

Eagles freshman guard Kate Pickens added 11 points for Oak Hall (14-4), who plays 1:30 p.m. Saturday against St. Augustine St. Joseph’s.

BOYS SOCCER

Keystone Heights 8, Interlachen 3: At Keystone Heights, Colby Townsend had a hat trick and an assist to lead the Indians past the Rams on Senior Night.

Keystone Heights junior forward Dean Hogg added two goals and an assist to bring his tally to 43 goals on the season. Hogg sits a pair of goals away from tying the school record of 45 by former Indian Jesus Perez.

Also contributing for Keystone Heights were Chris Anderson (two goals) and Landon Ricketts (goal, four assists).

The Indians (13-5-2) play at Clay on Monday.

Eastside 4, Mount Dora 0: At Mount Dora, the Rams’ Jeremy Jacobs netted a hat trick to pace his squad to a shutout win.

Eastside’s JJ Romarot put in the team’s other goal while goalkeeper Matthew Bishop-Gillis stopped 16 shots to earn the clean sheet.

The Rams (4-7-3) play Gainesville in the Alachua Cup on Wednesday at Alachua Community Center fields in Alachua.

GIRLS SOCCER

Gainesville 4, Suwannee 1: At Live Oak, Julia Ostebo and Zoe Lammers each scored twice to pace the Hurricanes.

Eva Schuh dished out three assists for Gainesville while goalkeeper Eileen Shiels recorded 10 saves.

P.K. Yonge 9, Newberry 2: In Gainesville, Blue Wave junior Juliette Palechor scored a second-half hat trick and added two assists.

P.K. Yonge freshman Madison Buss and sophomore Taylor Witt each notched two goals while eighth-graders Alli Maze and Marleigh Schackow found the back of the net once each.

The Blue Wave (9-2-1) play Tuesday at Fort White.
