Prep Roundup: McHenry leads Trenton girls over Lafayette

MAYO—Junior forward Samarie McHenry carried the Tigers, registering a hefty double-double, going for 20 points and 14 rebounds to help Trenton edge Lafayette, 58-53 Tuesday night in girls basketball. Junior guard Kinsey Akins chipped in with 12 points, seven rebounds and seven steals, and sophomore guard Bri Becker recorded 12 points and eight rebounds with four assists and four steals. The Tigers stay unbeaten, climbing to 6-0 (4-0 district).

Senior Renee Clines scored a game-high 25 points to pace Lafayette.

Columbia 5, Oak Hall 3: At Lake City, senior Kirsten Garner’s hat trick made the difference for the Lady Tigers in their comeback win over Oak Hall. Columbia began the match ahead 2-0, but the Lady Eagles responded, scoring three straight, taking the lead when Lindsay Jenkins scored on a header in the 58th minute. Isa Maranto, Garner and Selah Noland scored key second-half goals for Columbia (8-0-1). Gabby Aulisio scored the other goal for Oak Hall (4-3).

P.K. Yonge 5, Trinity Catholic 0: At P.K. Yonge, freshman Madison Buss scored twice, junior Juliette Palechor had a goal and two assists, and sophomore Sally Schackow set up a pair of goals as the Blue Wave shut out the Celtics. Seventh grader Emma Mansfield and eighth grader Marleigh Schackow each netted a goal apiece to pad PK’s lead. The Blue Wave move to 4-0.

Santa Fe 4, Suwannee 0: At Alachua, four different Raiders found the back of the net, as Santa Fe won a district contest over the visiting Lady Bulldogs. Kiyanna Williams, Veronica Breheny, Kire Nystrom and Abby Boone all buried first-half tallies, building a formidable advantage for Santa Fe. Georgia Clarke collected a pair of assists. The Raiders improve to 3-5-0 and 3-1 in district with the win.

Keystone Heights 1, Columbia 1: At Keystone Heights, the Indians struck in the nick of time to salvage a tie at home. Columbia scored first in the game’s third minute when Max Bazar converted on a penalty kick for a 1-0 lead. The Indians didn’t tie the match until the final ten seconds on a corner kick when sophomore Tyler Shaw booted home the delivery from senior Landon Ricketts. Keystone (7-1-2) benefitted from playing eleven-on-nine in the final minutes of the match due to a pair of late penalties by Columbia (5-3-2).

Eastside 0 Suwannee 0: At Eastside, Matthew Bishop-Gillis and Andreas Stuv combined to keep the Bulldogs off the scoreboard and help the Rams record a tie. Eastside moves to 1-3-2 overall.
