Bill Gates made a name for himself with software. On a recent trip to Omaha, Neb., the Microsoft co-founder tried his hand at soft-serve ice cream, joining longtime pal Warren Buffett for a shift at the local Dairy Queen.

The adventure in “fan food, not fast food,” as DQ refers to its offerings, was the latest for Gates and Buffett, who film their escapades when Gates visits for the annual shareholders weekend at Berkshire Hathaway, where Buffett is the CEO and chairman.

Last year the two drooled over candy offerings at Fairmont Antiques & Mercantile. The year before they lounged on mattresses and recliners at Nebraska Furniture Mart, a megastore owned by Buffett’s company. DQ is also owned by Berkshire Hathaway.

The video, along with a second mashup reel set to the “Golden Girls” theme, debuted as an exclusive to Gates Notes Insiders — subscribers to the blog run by Gates. Gates later added it on his YouTube channel.

For almost four minutes we get to see the billionaire buddies don aprons and visors and learn the ropes from DQ employees.

“They’re going to order from you from now on, not from me!” Buffett said after Gates made a better showing with his ice cream cone skills. “If you want anything later on, it’s on me,” Buffett told his customer.

When Gates failed to ask a customer what kind of dipping sauce she wanted with her meal, Zach, a DQ fan captain, reminded the tech pioneer — and fast food aficionado — how it’s done.

“You dip chicken, too?” Gates said. “Wow, you guys dip a lot of stuff around here.”

The video wraps with Gates pulling through the drive-thru in a vintage red Porsche to order an Oreo Blizzard which is served at the window by Buffett.
