Storm Gareth is set to hit Surrey on Wednesday (March 13) morning, with strong winds of up to 55mph expected.

A yellow weather warning for wind has been put in place until 3pm, with disruption to transport and travel services possible.

Some venues in the county may also be forced to close as a result of the windy weather.

The Met Office has also said that "short term loss of power" may be possible in some areas.

Fallen tree in Redhill

A fallen tree is blocking a pathway close to Mountview Drive in Redhill, according to a tweet from councillor Jonathan White of Reigate and Banstead Borough Council (RBBC).

RBBC has since responded to say that clearance of the debris will be organised.

Wind levels at airports

Surrey Live reporter Mark Davison has provided some information about the level of wind at Gatwick and Heathrow today (March 13).

He said that as of 10am, gusts at Gatwick were recorded as being “up to 35mph”.

Over at Heathrow, wind speeds of up to 27mph have been given.

Neither airport is suffering any problems as a result of the windy conditions.

Bad news for Spelthorne market goers

Spelthorne Borough Council has tweeted to say that Staines market has been cancelled today (March 13) due to the weather warning for high winds.

It is hoped that it’ll operate as normal on Friday and Saturday.

Windsor Great Park areas closed

Some information for anyone thinking of visiting the Windsor Great Park today (March 3).

Due to the windy weather, The Great Park, The Savill Garden and The Savill Building are closed to the public.

A statement on the site’s website reads:

“The safety of our visitors and staff is of paramount importance at The Crown Estate, and we’ve taken this decision to safeguard all.”

Horse racing could be cancelled

Although not in Surrey, the news that day two of Cheltenham Festival could be cancelled will undoubtedly impact many.

Cheltenham Racecourse has said that the second day is “under threat” due to the windy weather.

One incident on M3 cleared

One of the earlier broken down vehicles on the M3 southbound between junction 3 (Lightwater/Bagshot) and junction 4 (Frimley) has now been cleared.

The Met Office has put a yellow weather warning for wind in place across much of the UK, including Surrey.

Gusts of up to 55mph may be expected inland - the weather warning is in place until 3pm on Wednesday (March 13).

Another broken down vehicle on M3

Highways England has tweeted to say that there are now two broken down vehicles between junction 3 (Bagshot/Lightwater) and junction 4 (Frimley).

Motorists are advised to take extra care.

Travel news service INRIX is reporting that one lane is closed on the M3 southbound between junction 3 (Bagshot/Lightwater) and junction 4 (Camberley) due to a broken down lorry.

Traffic is reportedly slow past the incident.
