No buses are able to serve a Caterham estate due to two 'badly parked' cars, the operator has said.

The 411 Southdown service due at The Village in Caterham on the Hill at 3.47pm was unable to get past the two vehicles, and had to reverse with the help of a security guard from a nearby business.

While that bus was able to get out of the sticky situation by backing up, no buses were able to serve the estate after that, until the cars had been moved.

Southdown Buses called in Surrey Police to help and as of 4.20pm - three minutes after the previous service was due to get to The Village - the issue was ongoing.

Jamie Sadler, senior bus driver at Southdown, said: "It does happen on a regular basis. It's always around The Village by The Arc community centre, as you continue going around the one-way system."

Surrey Police has been contacted for more information on what officers can do to help. A spokeswoman said the immediate issue of the bus being stuck had been resolved and there are no major traffic issues so officers have not been deployed yet.

However, it's an issue that the neighbourhood policing team may be aware of, so they will be contacted for further information.

The 411 bus route does what's known as the 'Caterham circular' or 'Caterham hoppa'- a route that runs passengers from Caterham Valley to Caterham on the Hill and back. So not being able to serve The Village on such a short bus route means a large chunk of the route is out of action.

People wishing to get to the Valley from The Village will have to walk further to Coulsdon Road to catch the bus from there.

Drivers are asked to think carefully about where they park in the area, to avoid similar issues recurring.
