Reviewers praise the food at Pearl of China, previously known as The Colony, but if you're planning to go on a Saturday you may want to book - it can get very busy in there.

One reviewer, who claimed to have eaten at the restaurant more than 30 times in two years, wrote: "This is an excellent Chinese restaurant, the food is great, the service is consistently brilliant, the decor is clean and modern, the staff are genuinely nice people who strive to deliver a great experience, whilst delivering value for money."

One TripAdvisor reviewer, who said they went three times a week while working in Guildford town centre, wrote: "The food is cooked fresh in front of you and the flavour is amazing and has that home cooked feel to it.

"I can't get enough lately. It's a must try."

As well as the usual set menus and Chinese classics, Addlestone's Beijing Restaurant offers an all-you-can-eat buffet on Sundays between noon and 9pm, priced at £18.50 per person (£9.50 for children under 10).

That buffet seems very popular with TripAdvisor reviewers, many of whom mention it.

"We very much enjoyed all the dishes we had. Service was efficient, friendly and helpful. This was our first visit and we were all really impressed with both the food and staff."

5. So's Kitchen, Woking

Address: 1 White Rose Lane, GU22 7AA

Score:  4.5

"Cosy and unassuming" - So's Kitchen in Woking

"Cosy and unassuming" is how one reviewer describes this noodle bar next to Woking station, while another calls it "Woking's best kept secret".

It certainly is small and "no frills", but reviewers say it offers generous portions and is well worth seeking out for the less typical dishes.

One said: "What speaks the loudest about this place is the quality and authenticity of the Oriental dishes on its menu. We sometimes observe people order the typical takeaway Chinese dishes - sweet and sour, fried rice, fried noodles, which are probably good.

"However, from our experience of trying different dishes, the kitchen/cooks are highly capable of cooking more specialist, authentic dishes that are 'less well trodden'.

"Highly recommended - come for the food, but keep your expectations in check for the restaurant set up."

Total reviews:

This smart restaurant near Farnham has been going since 1996 and is so highly recommended that one TripAdvisor reviewer even had their wedding breakfast there.

They wrote: "I have been a dedicated user of this lovely, very elegant Asian fusion restaurant for some years. No flock wallpaper or fake bamboo here, happily. Just crisp white table linen and buckets of fresh white lilies everywhere.

"So it was a natural choice of venue to host our 'wedding breakfast'. I think our guests were somewhat dubious about our choice right up until the vast quantities of sizzling food came out.

"All our guests remarked on the high standard of the food and the attentive service."

8. The Good Earth, Esher

Address: 14-18 High Street, KT10 9RT

One reviewer wrote: "First off this is not [a] cheap restaurant so I go there to celebrate special occasions.

"The food, service and decor have always been spot on. The one and only set menu is a feast. A la carte there is nothing that is not good.
