With pub beer gardens set to open up to thirsty punters in Glasgow on Monday, restrictions on the sale of takeaway pints will come in to force on the same day.

Glasgow City Council say the move is in response to a spike in 'unacceptable' anti-social behaviour across the city, after they were 'inundated' with complaints about people drinking and urinating in public.

Plenty Glaswegians have responded with outrage at the decision, with many feeling that the ban will further pose problems for the city's hospitality trade, while others are in agreement that the ban is in fact a good thing.

Here's how Glasgow reacted to the impending ban on takeway pints:

Peter McDade tweeted: "It's not going to reduce demand for alcohol. Might as well allow it to be sold and kept in the local economy as much as possible.

"I'd even argue that people buying pints are going to be drinking less than people buying carry outs more often than not."

Sarah Morag Walker wrote: "Utter nonsense! Why should the law abiding responsible drinkers suffer for fools. Typical GCC decision".

Calum Truesdale echoed this, saying: "Ruining everything as usual".

Former Glasgow North East MP Paul Sweeney tweeted: "This will just serve to suffocate what has been a modest attempt for the licenced pub trade to recover in Glasgow.

"A regressive, antediluvian, reactionary decision that collectively punishes all Glaswegians and publicans for the poor behaviour of a few."

Campbell Gallagher added: "Shame on you Glasgow City Council. You encourage Anti social behaviour by not letting people socialise!"

Mark Lain said: "And the bars have been 100 x inundated with happy responsible customers, bringing much needed income and saving jobs. GCC ruining business."

While Alasdair Linsey wrote: "Council need to have a long hard look at what state the city is in right now, things like this are not the priority".

And Mitchell Overthrow said: "Cheers GCC, kids are crying now!"

Others, however, backed the move by Glasgow City Council.

Gary Hood tweeted: "No-one wants a flat pint in a plastic cup anyway".

Pauline Stewart wrote: "Best thing council decided."

Iona Fullerton echoed this, saying: "Good. Its been horrendous in the west end - drinking on the street turning into all day drinking, noise until the early hours of the morning, rubbish left behind and people urinating on private property. People ruining it for others who are following rules and not respecting residential areas."

Catherine Rowantree added: "Good! Finnieston's been a nightmare with dafties since this started!"

While Thomas Morrison wrote: "Embarrassing even buying a takeaway pint!!"

And Mandy Kenmure said: "Great news, the city centre has been full of idiots the past few weeks with there takeaway pints outside the Wetherspoons at Central Station".
