The property market can be overwhelming for everybody - not matter what your budget is.

The good news is buying in or around Glasgow gives you far more bang for your buck.

The typical cost now of a home in the city is now £123,577. Not exactly pocket change, but it's not too shabby when you compare it to the average cost for a place in Edinburgh. A home in the capital will set you back an average of £240,408. Ouch.

Glasgow's home to more than a few spectacular properties - both in and around the city. We decided to take a look at the most expensive property on the market currently for sale right now - and the least expensive too, if you are on the hunt for a bargain.

Most expensive property

The most expensive property available to buy is a stunning five-bedroom farmhouse in Newton Mearn.

We've written about it before - it first came on the market back in October last year - but trust us, it's worth another look.

This isn't your average pile of bricks - it's a sprawling million pound home complete with a massive man-made pond and its very own island. Not to be sniffed at, eh?

As well as that, the grounds of this magnificent home also feature a summer house, large terrace and a "scented walkway".

The interior of the main house is equally stylish, with a huge conservatory providing sweeping views of the luscious garden area.

There is also an added extra of a cottage right next door for visits- and we reckon you'd be pretty popular with this mini pad in your back garden.

On the market for offers in the region of £1,700,000, we're probably going to have to make do with looking from afar.

Least expensive property

At the other end of the scale - this two-bed is a real bargain. Located in Rutherglen, this pad is currently on the market for offers over £27,000.

Although it's need in of a makeover,  the flat comes with a generous kitchen, two double bedroom, a bathroom and good sized box room - plus ample storage.

It's a real steal but it won't be on the market much longer.  The closing date is tomorrow (January 17) at noon - so if you fancy it you better get a move on!
