Police are on the hunt for firebugs who set a Porsche SUV alight in a driveway in Thorntonhall on Friday night.

The incident happened in Baroness Drive in the South Lanarkshire village, to the south of Glasgow, around 11.45pm.

Emergency services were called to reports of a car on fire and found the Porsche Cayenne SUV, parked in a driveway, significantly damaged.

Police Scotland officers are checking CCTV and going door-to-door to find out who set the deliberate fire.

Detective Constable Chris McLaughlin said: “It’s fortunate no one was injured in the incident, albeit the car has suffered extensive damage.

“The motive behind this crime is not known and although the incident occurred late at night, I’m hoping local residents may still have been awake. I would appeal to them to think back and consider if they heard or saw something which they thought was a little odd at the time to contact us, perhaps they noticed someone outside the property prior to the fire being set.

“Any small piece of information could prove vital in our ongoing investigation.”
