It’s only been part of our lives since 2014, but the bright pink embers of the People Make Glasgow sign on George Square certainly bare the hallmarks of an icon.
It’s neither old, nor is it particularly a paragon of design, but the enormous writing on the Met Tower has accidentally won the hearts of many Glaswegians over the years.
As we revealed earlier this week, the B-listed building is to be transformed into office and apartment space - and artists’ impressions show a very different vision to the current landmark familiar to Glaswegians.
Originally the massive poster on the former college was just a cheap and cheerful way to distract from the fact the building is a fully-fledged eyesore in the heart of our city.
Whilst it was never really meant to be permanent feature of Glasgow’s skyline, a few of us have ended up feeling a wee bit sad to see the sign go.
But let’s be honest, it looked tired and dated and a beautiful place like Glasgow always deserved better than that.
The multi-million pound revamp is expected to generate hundreds of construction jobs, as well as accommodating up to 1,200 employees, so it's all good news if the proposals get the green light.
But what do people think about the fact they're not keeping the People Make Glasgow frontage?
We went to George Square to ask some Glaswegians exactly what they think!
