A woman has suffered potentially life-threatening injuries in a crash on the A46 in Evesham with the air ambulance called to take her to hospital.
The collision involved a car and a lorry at around 2pm.
The road was closed in both directions between the B4035 (near Aldington) and the A44 (near Evesham) due to the crash.
It reopened at around 7.20pm.
The collision was on the bypass near the junction of Elm Road.
An ambulance, a paramedic officer were sent to the scene along with the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham with a doctor and critical care paramedic on board.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Ambulance staff worked with firefighters to rapidly extricate the woman from the car, which had been badly damaged.
“She was treated at the scene for serious injuries before being airlifted to the Major Trauma Centre at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
“The man driving the lorry was understandably shaken but was unhurt.”
West Mercia Police and emergency services have been in attendance.
Road users have been advised to use alternative routes and to allow extra time for their journey.
A Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said one casualty had been freed from a vehicle and taken to hospital by the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity and the vehicles made safe.
West Mercia Police said earlier on twitter: "A46 Evesham currently closed from Twyford roundabout to Badsey roundabout due to RTC.
"Please avoid area. If you witnessed please call 101 and quote incident 341-s-111218."
