An inquest is being held this week into the death of a 24-year-old dad who lost his life when his van flipped over near the Air Balloon roundabout in Gloucestershire.

Mitchell Brigdale died before he ever got to meet his first son, who has been named after him.

The ‘fun-loving’ man, who also has a daughter Bailey Mae, died in the incident on the A436 in the early hours of Saturday, September 22.

The inquest will be held at Gloucestershire Coroners’ Court, in Barnwood, Gloucester, on Thursday, March 21 at 11am. 

Mr Brigdale was in a white transit van driving from the Air Balloon roundabout towards Seven Springs when the fatal crash happened at 3am and the road was closed for more than seven hours for the police investigation.

He was the only person in the vehicle and was declared dead at the scene.

His mum Caroline and stepdad Gary live in Tewkesbury but Mitch, a construction worker, moved around and he spent a happy time living in a Cheltenham flat with his friend Jack, his family said.

He was from a large close knit family and left sisters Emma, Ellie and Laura and his brothers, Daniel, Lee, Curt, Ed and Henry.

He was also close to his grandparents Shirley and John and was an “amazing uncle” to Jaiden, Evie Mae who idolised him and niece Grace, say his loved ones.

Tributes paid to Mitch on social media

One woman said: “Rip. You were a lovely lad. Thoughts and prayers are with your family and friends x”

Another woman echoed those sentiments: “Lovely bloke x thoughts and prays with family and friends xxx"

This woman said: “So sad that yet another loss on that rd. Sending prayers to the young man's family and friends xx

This woman said: “Thoughts and prayers go out to all involved. So so sad x”

Another woman said: “Thoughts with his family and many many friends."

The family paid tribute in a statement which said: “Mitch Brigdale was a fun loving and handsome young man.

“He will be sadly missed by his family, his children and his many friends, including his best friend and flat mate Jack.

“Mitch had a massive heart and loved his family dearly. He had so many friends from all over the county.

“He attended many music festivals all around the country. As a child Mitch attended school in both Cheltenham and Tewkesbury.

“Mitchell was self-employed as a construction worker. He was very loved and sadly missed by everybody that knew him.”
