A resident at a Gloucestershire care home celebrated an important milestone surrounded by family, friends and staff.

Nellie Pearson, who is a resident at Ashchurch View Care Home, celebrated her 100th birthday.

The care home in Tewkesbury organised the birthday event for Nellie; they decorated the lounge, booked a performer to attend the birthday bash and prepared a large two-tiered cake.

The celebratory event at the care home was held on Monday March 11 for Nellie, who was born in 1919.

"It's a horrible age," Nellie joked while opening a birthday card with a large '100' printed on the front.

Activities manager at Ashchurch View Care Home, Farook Kapadia said: "Nellie is very jolly, she is always laughing and smiling, and very active."

Nellie was surrounded at her party by staff, friends and residents at the care home, and her daughter Jean Davies.

Nellie received a large number of cards, flowers and gifts from well-wishers; her jacket was decorated in a number of 'happy birthday' and '100' badges.

Nellie was delighted when Ashchurch View manager, Marius Popescu, presented her with a bouquet of flowers to mark the occassion.
