Good morning and welcome to the live blog for Tuesday, March 19, 2019.

Flood Alerts are in place for the rivers Severn and Wye in Gloucestershire and we'll bring you the latest from the Environment Agency as water levels are expected to rise.

We'll be keeping up updated about any issues on the roads in Gloucester, Cheltenham, Stroud, Tewkesbury, the Forest of Dean and the Cotswolds and keeping a close eye on the M5.

And we will also bring you the latest weather forecast on what looks to be a more settled few days after the stormy conditions of recent weeks.

Today's weather

This is what the Met Office is saying in its regional forecast for the South West, which includes Gloucestershire:

Today:

Skies will be on the cloudy side today with outbreaks of light rain and drizzle at times. However, it is likely to be drier for a time this afternoon perhaps with some bright spells. Maximum temperature 13C.

Tonight

Low cloud will spread in tonight bringing mist and murk over the hills. Outbreaks of drizzle are likely at first, but it should be largely dry by dawn. Minimum temperature 7C.

According to the Weather Channel, it will be a dry, cloudy day in Gloucestershire with temperatures up to 12C.

Fatality on line between Swindon and Didcot Parkway

Great Western have said there are delays on the line because of a ‘fatality on the line’ between Swindon and Didcot

Lines have since reopened but passengers heading from Gloucestershire to London may face delays and diversions.

Flood Alert: River Wye in Gloucestershire

This is what the Environment Agency is saying: Flooding is possible - be prepared

  • River levels have risen at the Ross-On-Wye river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall.
  • The risk of flooding is now reducing. Flooding is affecting low lying land and roads along the River Wye.
  • We do not forecast the situation to deteriorate any further.
  • No further rainfall is forecast. We are closely monitoring the situation.
  • Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses.

  • River levels are forecast to rise at the Mythe Bridge and Haw Bridge river gauges as a result of persistent heavy rainfall.
  • Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is expected.
  • Flooding is affecting low lying land and roads adjacent to the River Severn from Tewkesbury to Gloucester. Locations that may be affected include Severn Ham, Apperley and Maisemore.
  • Predicted peaks:- Mythe 3.2 m to 3.5 m on Wednesday 20/03/19, Haw Bridge 4.0 m to 4.4 m on Wednesday 20/03/19.
  • We expect river levels to remain high over the next few days.
  • We are closely monitoring the situation. Please plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.
