The moment two men went into a pub and stole just over £1,000 that was due to be paid to staff has been caught on camera.

The theft of cash from an office drawer at The Gardeners Arms in Alderton, near Tewkesbury, on Saturday was captured on its CCTV system.

It happened shortly after 2pm when the men also went through a member of staff’s handbag in the office.

The established pub is run by the Wakeman family, which posted the footage on social media.

Ollie Wakeman said, on Facebook: “Unbelievably today we have been robbed by some low life b******s.

“These two scum not only took staff wages but also went through and took staff items, if anyone knows who they are please get in touch.

“The police have been told and are investigating further, please share this as much as possible.”

A post on the pub’s Facebook page also said: “These two ‘scroats’ broke into my home and business today without a care in the world.

“My young daughter could have easily disturbed them at any time and God knows what might have happened...if anyone can help name and shame them I would be most grateful.”

Wendy Wakeman, who has run the pub for a number of years with her husband, Mike, said: "We've found a way to pay staff but it's upsetting we had to delay paying them by 24 hours."

A spokeswoman for Gloucestershire police said: “Officers would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed something significant.

“Anyone with information is asked to call Gloucestershire Constabulary on 101, quoting incident 329 of March 16.”

The police said one of the men was white, between 25 and 30 years old, about 5ft 10ins tall and with very short brown hair.

He was wearing a light grey hoodie, darker grey Legea sweatpants and distinctive black and white trainers.
