Motorists are being diverted off a stretch of the M5 in Gloucetershire as a full southbound closure will be in place until 6am on Wednesday.

Highways England is shutting a two-and-half mile stretch of motorway from junction 11 at the A40 Golden Valley to junction 11a at the Brockworth bypass from 8pm tonight.

It’s because essential repair work is needed on bridges going over the carriageway.

The stretch of the M5 that's going to be closed southbound tonight

The closure will put more pressure on surrounding roads as people find alternative routes along the A40 and A417.

It comes as bridge maintenance work is carried out on the A40 Golden Valley Bypass over the motorway.
