Residents in Gloucestershire have reported a number of trees being felled by strong winds in the county.

A fallen tree in Cheltenham had blocked St Stephen's Road; coming extremely close to parked vehicles at the side of the road.

Gloucestershire police closed the road briefly whilst they attended the scene; they said it is has now been passed onto the Highways Agency.

Earlier in the day, Welsh Way in Baunton partially blocked the A429 Stow Road.

The tree reportedly fell at 11.40am, but has since been cleared.

Cllr Paul Hodgkinson (LD, Cotswold: Bourton-on-the-Water and Northleach) posted on Twitter that a tree has fallen in Bagendon, north of Cirencester, blocking the road to Woodmancote.

He said it "needs urgent attention."

At 2pm, a fallen tree reportedly blocked the A435 in both directions, between Welsh Way (Perrotts Brook) and Dark Lane (North Cerney) near Cirencester.

It comes after a weather warning was issued over night for high winds with gusts of up to 65mph in some parts.

More wintry weather is expected tonight with ice and snow.

This is an ongoing story and we will continue to update with more information.
