The estimated street value of cannabis seized by police in Gloucestershire has topped £1m this year after the latest raid at a fire-hit building last night.

Officers found 355 cannabis plants and associated equipment at an address in Llanthony Road in Gloucester after they were alerted to the drugs by the fire service.

Officers found an industrial size cannabis grow within the premises and the plants were found across two floors of the building.

The drugs are believed to have a possible street value of up to £300,000.

The cannabis plants found in Gloucester

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Smith said: "In the last week the serious and organised crime team have discovered a significant amount of cannabis grows within the county.

"I believe that these discoveries will have a significant impact on all of our communities as these factories generate money that is pumped into the purchase of Class A drugs like Cocaine, Sexual Exploitation, Human Trafficking and also the purchase of Firearms.

"We have seized over £1 million worth of cannabis so far this year and we would ask anyone who suspects that drugs are being manufactured near them to let us know, you can do this by anonymously calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

Other raids in Gloucestershire

There have been a series of raids this year across Gloucestershire, including a haul of 360 cannabis plants found by police at two addresses in Cheltenham on Monday.

The plants can be seen in this Gloucestershire police video under hot lights in an insulated room with thermometers hanging down from the ceiling and fans blowing.

Officers from the Force Crime Operations team believe the combined street value of the drugs found in this Cheltenham operation could be £300,000.

The specialist officers, who focus in serious and organised crime, found 208 plants in one location and 152 in another property on Monday.

A 44-year-old man from Cheltenham was arrested on suspicion of the production of class B drugs.

DC Craig Openshaw said on Tuesday: "We have disrupted what we suspect is an organised crime group.

"There is no doubt that the substantial financial gain from the cannabis produced at this site would have directly funded more serious and organised crime.

“We would ask you to call Crimestoppers should you suspect that something similar is taking part where you live, this can include the smell of cannabis, noticing that there is ventilation ducting or hearing the whirring of fans.

“Crimestoppers are an independent crime-fighting charity and you can submit information anonymously by calling 0800 555 111."
