This is our coronavirus live blog for Bank Holiday Monday, May 25 as Gloucestershire continues to live life under lockdown.

Gloucestershire residents are being reminded again that they should not be going to relatives' homes, popping round to see their mates or heading off on holiday.

The advice was tweeted by Gloucestershire police on Sunday afternoon, as the row over Dominic Cummings' trip to Durham during lockdown continued.

At Sunday's Downing Street press conference the Prime Minister gave his backing to his advisor, saying: “I have had extensive face-to-face conversations with Dominic Cummings and I have concluded that in travelling to find the right kind of childcare, at the moment when both he and his wife were about to be incapacitated by coronavirus – and when he had no alternative – I think he followed the instincts of every father and every parent.

“And I do not mark him down for that.”

Boris Johnson also confirmed the government is going ahead with a phased reopening of schools, from June 1.

The PM said a phased reopening of schools was “crucial” for children.

“The education of children is crucial for their welfare, for their long-term future and for social justice,” he said.

Crime Commissioner Martin Surl has called on Number 10 to answer questions about Dominic Cummings visit to Durham saying the row has made "a mockery" of police officers who have enforced the rules over the past two months.

Gloucestershire's Independent Police and Crime Commissioner's says the public have right to know if Mr Cummings was at Barnard Castle, 30 miles from his parents' home in Durham on April 12.

And he says by refusing to answer such simple questions Prime Minister Boris Johnson is showing he does not trust the public and is making it more difficult to enforce the rules.
