A mound of full bin bags was found flytipped in a Gloucester street on Sunday morning.

Residents in Barton said they were shocked to be greeted with the scene, less than two days after rubbish collections in the area.

An estimated 25 bags of rubbish were dumped in Barton Street by the Gothic Cottages in the area.

It is an area that is often a frequent place used for flytipping. One of the councillors in the area is very disappointed to see that the area has been used again for people to dump waste.

Councillor Said Hansdot (L, Barton and Tredworth) said: “It is not acceptable that this is happening to residents that live in the area.

“If you have excess rubbish then take it to the tip. I was really disappointed to see so much rubbish and there were also bulky items in the area.

“You can call the council on 01452 396396 and pay the charge and have the items collected.

“If you are caught you will be fined and that's it.”

Mr Hansdot found many different items on his morning walk of the ward - a washing machine, bookcase, and shopping trolley to name a few.

He added: “Have some pride in where you live.

“No one wants to walk around where they live with family and friends visiting the area and see all of that.

“I know that there is a camera nearby that may be able to tell us who dumped the rubbish and I have asked the police officers in the area to check the footage.”

The issue has been logged with the council.

Flytipping in Barton.

A Gloucester City Council spokesperson said: “A report has been lodged with the council today with regard to an amount of domestic waste piled up on the corner of Gothic Cottages and Barton Street.

“It is not known whether this incident is linked to the domestic waste collected on Friday as the bins are some distance further down Gothic cottages and on the opposite side of the road.

“This matter shall be investigated as an incident of fly tipping rather than a simple side waste accumulation.

“Consequently the council has instructed 3GS to visit this area to investigate further with the view to issue fixed penalty notices on those responsible.

“Once the waste has been fully investigated the council’s contractor AMEY shall be engaged to remove the waste.

I am not aware of this previous conversation, however Gloucester City Council does have rapid deployment cameras or RDC,  that can be installed in areas, where infrastructure allows and where fly tipping is frequent, repetitive and considerable.

“At present all RDC have been deployed in areas where fly tipping issues are prevalent. The situation at Gothic Cottages shall remain under review.”
