Motorists travelling through the Forest of Dean today are being urged to avoid the main road between Parkend and Lydney after a serious accident.

Police and emergency services are currently at the scene of a collision on the B4234 New Road close to the Norchard base of Dean Forest Railway.

It is being described as a 'very serious' incident but no details of any vehicles involved or possible injuries are currently available.

The road is closed between Lydney and Whitecroft, it is not known if access to the Dean Forest Railway is currently affected.

Gloucestershire Live understands the road is likely to remain closed for some time and diversions will be put in place.

Firefighters rescued man from truck

A spokesman for Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue service confirmed firefighters had rescued the injured man from his vehicle. Three crews, two from Lydney, one from Coleford were called to the scene just after 9.26am where they found the man trapped in his truck in a ditch. They worked to free him before he was taken to hospital.

The last crew left the scene just after midday.

The Air Ambulance has been spotted at the scene, leaving about an hour ago but it is believed the injured man was taken to hospital in a road ambulance.
