People living along parts of the River Severn in Gloucestershire are being urged to take heed of flood warnings as heavy rain and rising water levels continue.

Red warnings - which mean immediate action is required - remain in place on the River Severn at Severn Ham outside Tewkesbury with levels still rising. The river was set to peak this morning.

No homes are believed to be affected at this time although

Elsewhere several yellow warnings - which mean 'be prepared' - have been placed on other sections of the Severn, the River Leadon, the Evenlode and the Avon. River levels on the Wye are also high.

Heavy rain which caused traffic problems late into Friday is set to return today and with some areas already saturated further warnings could be issued.

Flooding is expected - immediate action required

River levels have risen at the Mythe Bridge and Upper Pound river gauges as a result of heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding of property and roads and farmland is possible today. Flooding may affect properties and roads in and around Severn Ham, Tewkesbury. Predicted Peak at Mythe 3.7 to 3.75 metres this evening, Upper Pound 3.7 to 3.75 metres this evening. Further rainfall is forecast over the next 24 hours. We expect river levels to remain high for the next few days. We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are checking defences. Please plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded and avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses. This message will be updated this evening, or as the situation changes.

Rain has not stopped the fun at the Three Counties Show - all thanks to a little help from Gloucester Rugby

Bosses at one of Britain’s most scenic showgrounds called in a bit of help from Gloucester Rugby to help the Three Counties Show survive the downpours which have brought chaos across the country.

Chief Executive of Three Counties Showground Ken Nottage also praised his innovative team who have led a five-year programme to weather-proof the venue just over the Gloucestershire border in Malvern.

Safety warning for those living along the Severn

Travellers stuck on land next to Tewkesbury Abbey

Travellers who recently set up an unauthorised camp on a recreational area close to Tewkesbury Abbey are reportedly trapped.

The group, who moved on to The Vineyards earlier this week, have moved onto higher ground to avoid the water. One witness said they had ‘left wheel marks’ in the ground as they made a quick get-away from rising water.

In Gloucestershire, Severn Ham is already flooded with levels rising. Elsewhere flooding is expected all the way down through Alney Island.

There is a chance we could see the water rising at Maisemore and the closure of the Hartpury Road. It remains open at this time.
