A 'smouldering pavement' was attended to by emergency services in the Forest of Dean.

Officers from Gloucestershire police and the county's fire and rescue service were called to Cinderford High Street on Monday.

Police were called to the scene at 6.10pm and they shut off the town's arterial route.

A spokeswoman said: "We have had reports of a smouldering pavement.

"The fire service are getting specialist equipment."

Buses were diverted away from the area on what has been a busy night for the force, with two incidents in Gloucester earlier.

Group Manager for Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Rob Bunting said: “Following a call from Gloucestershire Police at 6.41pm, two crews from Cinderford attended an underground electrical fire on the High Street

“The crews were very easily able to resolve the incident but as a result a small number of homes are temporarily without power.

“The crews left at 8.15pm after making sure the scene was safe."

Home have since had their power restored.

Western Power Distribution are reporting 112 properties have had supplies cut off.

According to their website, it will take until 4am tomorrow to fix it.

They were at the scene for just under an hour and a half.

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service reveal more about the callout

A spokeswoman said they were called to Cinderford High Street by the police where an underground electrical transformer had caught fire.

She described it as ‘an isolated incident’ and they arrived to deal with it at 6.41pm.

Two crews have been working on the issue.
