No cuts currently shown but widespread reports from earlier
Western Power Distribution’s live power cut map currently shows no incidents in Gloucestershire. Many of our readers have reported very brief outages from earlier in the day, lasting about 5-10 seconds and from all over Gloucester.
Traffic lights affected by power issue
Gloucestershire County Council have confirmed that the traffic lights at the junction of Gouda Way and St Oswald’s Road is affected by the “voltage fluctuation”.
They are not aware of any other problems in the city.
What is a "voltage fluctuation"?
It means there’s a dip in the voltage level. Power is lost, mainly for larger businesses that have “quite sensitive equipment”.
It leads to a short power cut before the supply kicks in again.
It doesn’t mean that a business with a laptop or refrigerator could be affected, but equipment in the infrastructure housing the electricity.
What is causing the problem?
Western Power Distribution said they became aware of a “voltage fluctuation” in the Gloucester area at about 10.20am.
It is not known what has caused the fluctuation. WPD are investigating.
Problems paying cash across the city
Card machines across Gloucester aren’t working in shops because of the internet connection.
One shopkeeper in Gloucester Quays said: “It’s been happening all day. It’s a nightmare I’m not looking forward to lunchtime.”
He is blaming the internet connection, lost due to the voltage fluctuation.
