Plans to sign-off phase one of a 1,300-home estate north of Gloucester could be approved next week after it was delayed two months ago.

In a council meeting in April, Tewkesbury Borough councillors voted to defer an application to build 253 homes on land in Innsworth because they wanted to visit the site and see more details of the application.

The 253 homes are the first phase of seven in a massive development that would see 1,300 homes built north of Innsworth Lane, as well as a primary school, business park and a community centre.

Councillors on the authority’s planning committee are being recommended to approve the plans, including a separate application for the main road and drainage infrastructure, at a meeting next week.

Proposing to delay the decision on April 18, councillor Elaine MacTiernan (C, Northway) said: “I see no elevations and no street scenes. We haven’t got all the information we need. I do not think we are ready for this, and I do not understand the rush.

“For an application of this size it is fine to take a little longer.”

Borough council officers told members that the information they needed was presented to them and fully available, adding that if they needed anything more they could drop into their office “at any time”.

The Government backed the 1,300 homes in Innsworth in 2017 after the plans, which were first submitted in July 2015, went to an appeal because the borough council had not considered them for 18 months.

A compliance statement submitted to the borough council by Taylor Wimpey said: “In Innsworth, Taylor Wimpey is proposing a high-quality development.

“With its commitment to excellence the proposals will deliver not only an attractive but an environmentally friendly development.”

The plans from part of Gloucestershire’s Joint Core Strategy – the masterplan to build 31,824 new homes in Gloucester, Tewkesbury and Cheltenham by 2031.

Councillors will consider the application at a meeting on June 18, from 10am.
