Police in one part of Gloucestershire attended 50 separate reports of anti-social behaviour on Bank Holiday Friday.

Officers on patrol in Gloucester, supported the Gloucester City Protection Orders, had what they described as a 'long and interesting day.'

Among the incidents were reports of a gathering in Westgate Park where officers found evidence of people drinking alcohol having barbecues.

The Gloucester City Police team tweeted: "A long & interesting day with around 50+ #antisocialbehaviour incidents attended by Officers from the #GlosCityTeam assisted by the #BartonStreet Sarge & our colleagues from @GlosPolSpecials Thank you to everyone who enjoyed and adhered to #SocialDistancing #VEDay celebrations"

Another tweet praised the City's response to VE Day celebrations but added that officers had been attending numerous reports of garden/house parties involving more than occupants.

On Thursday Gloucestershire Constabulary's Assistant Chief Constable Craig Holden said officers will be on patrol throughout the weekend and making sure people are going "all we can to protect the public".

He said: Until we hear differently, Government advice remains the same.

“Our officers will be on patrol throughout the bank holiday weekend, offering words of advice and ensuring that we are doing all we can to protect the public.

“We know how frustrating this has been for many people but I would ask that you continue to avoid making unnecessary journeys this bank holiday weekend. We all have a role to play in the fight against coronavirus, so please do your part and stay at home.”

Elsewhere a team from Gloucestershire Specials were based on the A38 near Hardwicke checking to see if people were making essential journeys.
