It might not have been the crime of the century but police in Gloucester showed they are always ready to uphold the law - and that they have a keen sense of humour too.

They tweeted that they had received a report that a male was trying to sell Ferrero Rocher outside a pub in the city.

They said police community support officers went to the scene and spoke to the male.

The trays of the well-known brand of chocolates were seized and officers said they hoped to find their owner.

In a nod to the Ferrero Rocher television advert of the 1990s, they added #TheAmbassadorWontBeHappy in their tweet.

This was a reference to the fact that the advert featured a party being held by an ambassador with smartly-dressed guests being invited to take a chocolate from a huge pile on a plate.
