These two buses were wedged together on a narrow Gloucestershire lane for more than an hour this morning.

The Stagecoach vehicles were "touching" as they attempted to scrape by each other at 8am in the Forest of Dean.

The incident happened in Ruardean, outside The Malt Shovel Inn, when the 24  double decker bus to Gloucester and the 35 to Monmouth, attempted to pass each other.

As the situation was already looking dire, a smaller white school bus then arrived behind the tightly packed vehicles.

Adam Scrivens, the landlord of the The Malt Shovel Inn, said his partner was worried that she wouldn't be able to get to work as the school bus was blocking her exit from the pub car park.

His partner Amy Jennings had to rush off early, as she works at Monmouth School - not connected with the school bus which was travelling in the opposite direction.

"It was a bit of a pain," he said.

However, he added that the bus driver was "very nice" and helpfully reversed slightly to allow her to exit, so their panic turned in to "more of a minor inconvenience".

The school bus then remained behind the jam for the full hour.

Mr Scrivens said that the buses eventually squeezed through the deadlock when the smaller 35 Stagecoach staggered forward slowly.

The landlord said "they were touching" and  that the rear window of double decker popped out as the 35 scraped passed it.

He said: "The smaller bus had to drive through in the end. the rear window must have been popped against the other bus because it popped out."

Mr Scrivens said that he returned to bed as soon as the incident was over.

He has been the landlord of The Malt Shovel Inn since September, he had previously been working at the pub for two years, and says that he has only seen this happen once before "exactly two years ago".

A spokesperson for Stagecoach West confirmed the incident and added that they would make investigations in to why it happened, in a statement below.

“We can confirm there was an incident close to The Malt Shovel Inn in Ruardean in the Forest of Dean before 8am involving two buses which became stuck after trying to pass one another.

"We sent out a replacement bus for customers immediately and an investigation is under way into what happened."
